Mesh covers are lightweight, let rain and snowmelt drain straight through, and block 95 to 98% of sunlight. They're the easiest choice for winterizing. Solid covers block nearly all sunlight to prevent algae and keep debris out entirely, but need a cover pump or drain panels to remove standing water. Both are ASTM-certified safety covers.
